It was out of fun during a drinking session with fellow crew after a boring day routine when one criticized the other of polluting the sea by throwing an empty bottle of wine. To his defence the latter said, no, I was just giving a tiny fish a place to hide from its predators. Quite right, indeed that guy made sense. After a moment of laughter, I thought of an idea how to make my own empty bottle useful.
That was thirteen years back, I was younger, more adventurous, single and can’t deny it amused of fairy tales. I don’t know exactly how a sealed bottle with a scroll drifting on the ocean works to convey a message like what they used to do in the olden days. That was the idea, but my version was simple- wrote only my email address on a piece of paper, rolled and placed it inside a bottle, sealed and together with a wish threw it on the ocean, to whom it may concern.
Despite the harsh weather in the open sea, I was confident and convinced that my drift bottle would one day find its way to a beach. Year after year had passed nothing unusual came in my Yahoo mailbox. I got bored of waiting but never loses hope that one day somewhere it could give excitement to a lone beach dweller. For nearly a decade of opening my Yahoo mailbox for the same reason, I finally gave up for I didn’t hear anything about my long-lost drift bottle. I was thinking that probably the cork was broken, water came in and sank the bottle. One day I’d just decided to change my password.
The day I met my wife was the day I forgot my yahoo mail password. Maybe, just maybe it wasn’t really a drift bottle, maybe it was a wish bottle and that wish inside it had then come true.
